Global Server Load Balancing

DNS-based traffic steering with GeoIP intelligence and weighted routing for globally distributed infrastructure. Direct users to the nearest, healthiest data center automatically.

How GSLB Works

Netman uses DNS-based traffic direction at the global level to route users to the nearest or best-performing data center. Powered by gdnsd, an authoritative DNS daemon purpose-built for GSLB, every DNS query triggers a GeoIP lookup that resolves to the optimal datacenter IP for that user.

Routing Modes

Choose the routing strategy that fits your infrastructure requirements, or combine them for advanced traffic policies.

GeoIP Routing

MaxMind GeoIP2 integration routes users based on geographic location. Comply with data sovereignty requirements by keeping traffic within specific regions and reduce latency by directing users to nearby infrastructure.

Weighted Round-Robin

Distribute traffic proportionally by datacenter capacity. Gradually shift traffic during migrations, perform A/B testing at the DNS level, and balance load across sites with different resource profiles.

Failover

Automatic DNS failover when a site goes down. Configurable health checks monitor each datacenter, and rapid TTL settings ensure fast recovery with minimal disruption to end users.

Key Benefits

GSLB delivers measurable improvements to performance, resilience, and compliance for globally distributed services.

Reduced Latency

Route users to the nearest datacenter based on their geographic location. Shorter network paths mean faster page loads and a better experience for every user, regardless of where they connect from.

Disaster Recovery

Automatic failover between geographic regions ensures continuity when a site experiences an outage. Health checks detect failures and reroute traffic within seconds, keeping your services online.

Compliance

Enforce data sovereignty through geographic routing policies. Keep European user data in EU datacenters, ensure APAC traffic stays in-region, and meet regulatory requirements with location-aware DNS resolution.

Scalability

Distribute load across global infrastructure as your user base grows. Add new datacenters and regions without reconfiguring existing sites. Weighted routing lets you scale capacity incrementally.

GeoIP Intelligence

Netman integrates with MaxMind GeoIP2 databases to make precise, location-aware routing decisions at the DNS level.

Multi-Level Routing

Route traffic at the country, region, or city level depending on your precision requirements. Fine-grained control lets you target specific metropolitan areas or broad continental regions.

ASN-Based Routing

Make network-aware routing decisions based on Autonomous System Numbers. Direct traffic from specific ISPs or cloud providers to the datacenter with the best connectivity for that network.

Automatic Updates

GeoIP databases are updated automatically to reflect changes in IP allocation and network topology. No manual intervention required to maintain routing accuracy.

Optional Subscription

MaxMind GeoIP2 database integration is available as an optional subscription. Use the free GeoLite2 databases for basic routing or upgrade to GeoIP2 for enhanced accuracy.
